The deal estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – following the McLaren team was appraised at £3.5 billion in a change of ownership structure in September. The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, would sell a stake in the region of 5%. The 53-year-old will remain as team boss and chief executive officer if the sale goes through. Ownership Breakdown Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who both hold one-third of the company. An official representative stated: "We will be making no official statement on the matter. The governance of Mercedes F1 will remain unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to the ongoing success of the brand in Formula One." Financial Growth This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 after Ineos bought its stake for £208m in 2022. The rise reflects the expansion in market values of F1 teams recently due to the increasing appeal of Formula 1 globally. This was also seen in the success of the F1 movie starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and earned more than $630m (£458m) at cinemas worldwide. It is Pitt's most successful film and the most successful sports movie ever released. Present Standings The Mercedes team are runner-up in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren Racing, with three races left in the current championship. Mercedes' primary racer British driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 grands prix this year and is fourth in the individual standings after McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team secured a record eight consecutive team titles and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
